Gnarled birch can develop by many reasons. Formations that are many times ball-like occur at tree trunks,
blanches or at tree roots are called gnarled birch. It is hard to say reasons why gnarled birch develops to tree,
it might be damage caused by insect or mechanical failure or change in genes. Abnormal growth of wood might continue tree´s
whole lifetime, in these cases gnarled birch might grow big, with even over one meter diameter. Single healthy gnarled birches
don´t usually change tree much, and tree trunks can be uset regularly for example timber. Gnarled birches wood is hard and durable
and it has been used through times for items that are made for hard use for example for dishes and door handles.
